A decision support system for operations in a container terminal
نویسندگان
چکیده
We describe a variety of inter-related decisions made during daily operations at a container terminal. The ultimate goal of these decisions is to minimize the berthing time of vessels, the resources needed for handling the workload, the waiting time of customer trucks, and the congestion on the roads and at the storage blocks and docks inside the terminal; and to make the best use of the storage space. Given the scale and complexity of these decisions, it is essential to use decision support tools to make them. This paper reports on work to develop such a decision support system (DSS). We discuss the mathematical models and algorithms used in designing the DSS, the reasons for using these approaches, and some experimental results. D 2003 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

This study analyses the concept of cost functions for semi-automated Straddle Carrier (SC), Rubber Tyred Gantry (RTG) and automated Rail Mounted Gantry (RMG) container yard operating cranes. It develops a generic cost based model for a pair-wise comparison, analysis and evaluation of economic efficiency and effectiveness of container yard equipment to be used for decision-making by terminal pla...

متن کاملA New Approach for Sequencing Loading and Unloading Operations in the Seaside Area of a Container Terminal
Due to the considerable growth in the worldwide container transportation, optimization of container terminal operations is becoming highly needed to rationalize the use of logistics resources. For this reason, we focus our study on the Quay Crane Scheduling Problem (QCSP), which is a core task of managing maritime container terminals. From this planning problem arise two decisions to be made: T...

In this paper efficient in time methods for support decision-making processes in small container terminal operated by reachstackers are proposed. Two main problems are considered: first, minimization the number of loading/unloading operations between container trains and bays, second, minimization the number of re-handing operations within container bays. in Gliwice, Poland to model the problem...
